All About me Sheets!

Hello Readers!

During my first literacy class teaching I was very nervous! Not only was this my first class every teaching it was not even my major course that I studied in, so I was feeling way outside of my comfort zone. Part of my teaching learning philosophy is about building a community within my classroom and the important of those relationships with my students. They need to stay professional but I also want to be able to show them I care about them, and respect them. To do this I decided to create these "All About Me Sheets!" These sheets were given to each student on the first day of class and I asked to fill them out. They had a variety of questions on them for the students to answer. My goal from this activity was to gain more knowledge on each student and be able to get to know them. Becoming more comfortable with my students will help me feel less nervous! While they were thinking about the questions and what to write on their sheets I also created my own 'All About Me,' and placed a bunch of items that describes me in a bag. Then I pulled out each items and talked about how it represents me. A few of my items include: a tea bag for my love for tea, a small globe, because I want to travel the world, and a Toronto Maple Leaf keychain as they are my favourite hockey team! As I was doing this the students could start to build connections with me, maybe they were leaf fans too or drank tea every morning. These are the things I want to learn about my students. Building those relationships in the classroom with your students, especially on the first day of teaching is a huge positive YES, as then the students can feel more comfortable with you as well!
Check out my fifth artifact: 'All About Me Sheets!' Try them out in your classes and let me know what you think!

Cheers!
